'Everyone In might continue but everyone is no longer literally in' | Local Government Chronicle (LGC)

The Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government s continued insistence that its Everyone In policy on housing rough sleepers is still ongoing has been called into question by a senior homeless policy expert. On Wednesday, the ministry attacked Sir Keir Starmer for claiming it was “turning [its] back on people without a home” by not renewing the Everyone In drive against rough sleeping. In an unusual move, the ministry’s official Twitter account said the Labour leader’s claim was “not true” and that the drive spearheaded by Baroness Louise Casey to successfully find accommodation for every rough-sleeper during the first lockdown was continuing. The ministry told LGC it was investing £1.5bn on homelessness over two years.

MHCLG Twitter spat with Starmer over renewal of rough sleeper policy

MHCLG Twitter spat with Starmer over renewal of rough sleeper policy Sir Keir Starmer has been publicly rebuked on Twitter by the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government s official civil service account for describing it as “shocking and extremely irresponsible” that the government has not renewed its ‘Everyone In’ homelessness pledge. The Labour leader posted an article in the I newspaper which claimed that the Everyone In policy, which helped 15,000 people off the street at the beginning of the pandemic by in many cases placing them in hotels and bed and breakfasts, will not return this lockdown. Mr Starmer accused the government of “turning their back on people without a home” and warned that “this inhumanity will cost lives”.
