A controversy is emerging over President Moon Jae-in s pick for the nation s top prosecutor position, former Vice Justice Minister Kim Oh-soo.

Prosecution s neutrality should not be breached
President Moon Jae-in cannot deflect criticism for tapping a pro-government figure as the new prosecutor general. On Monday, he nominated former Vice Justice Minister Kim Oh-soo to the top post at the prosecution. Moon appeared to put loyalty over qualification and competence in choosing Kim over three other candidates shortlisted by a recommendation committee.
Addressing the nomination, the presidential office said Kim has ample experience with the prosecution and the justice ministry, taking the lead in protecting human rights and pushing for prosecutorial reform. Kim, a veteran prosecutor, served as chief of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors Office and the Institute of Justice, before being made vice justice minister in June 2018. ....

Author calls left-wing commentator 'villain'

Book delves into how Kim Ou-joon became enemy within liberals
By Kang Hyun-kyung
Choi In-ho s new book Kim Ou-joon Is Worse than Choi Soon-sil is the liberal commentator s sharp-tongued criticism of his fellow commentator and radio show host, Kim Ou-joon.
Choi, a YouTuber and also founder of a civic group created to put pressure on politicians to adopt a liberal-minded policy agenda, opens fire at Kim, calling him a villain who has manipulated public opinion in his favor by using his influence.
The book claims that some liberals began to harbor suspicions about Kim since his sympathetic remarks about the prosecution that investigated the corruption scandal surrounding the former Justice Minister Cho Kuk in 2019. ....

A lot has happened since we last caught up on developments in cartel enforcement. Big changes are expected. Trillions of dollars are proposed to be spent by the federal government in the name of pandemic relief, just as the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has begun bringing criminal charges through its Procurement Collusion Strike Force.
