A team of experts from Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is guiding the technicians of Sterlite Copper to repair the oxygen plant’s cold box that broke down on Thursday night halting oxygen production.
Oxygen generation in Sterlite that started on Thursday morning suffered a major setback on Thursday night following technical snag in the cold box of the plant.
Though it was initially thought that the technical issue could be sorted out within three days by the technicians of Sterlite Copper, the minute cracks that had developed in the cold box completely paralysed oxygen generation. ....

With the COVID-19 positive patients being diverted to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital (TVMCH) from all southern districts, the district administration and the doctors, postgraduate medical students and the nurses are under extreme pressure to find them beds and getting oxygen for most of these extremely critical patients to save them.
As the number of positive patients getting reported in this region crosses 2,000 everyday, there is a need to create more beds in hospitals, particularly in government medical college hospitals. The first choice of most of the patients is the government medical college hospitals where they can avail free but quality treatment even as the private hospitals are charging ....

Barring fuel stations, pharmacies, grocery, vegetable and tea hops and restaurants, all shops remained closed on Monday as the two-week-long lockdown commenced.
However, people could be seen moving around unnecessarily in their vehicles. The police personnel deployed at important junctions intercepted the vehicles and inquired about the necessity of their travel. Several persons were booked for violating lockdown norms.
Collector V. Vishnu said 11 surveillance teams in Corporation area and seven teams in taluks had been deployed to monitor violators.
“Pharmacies should not issue tablets for cold or fever without proper prescription by the qualified physician. Names and complete addresses of those who come to pharmacies for buying tablets for cold or fever with prescription should be registered. If not, action will be taken against pharmacies,” Mr. Vishnu warned. ....
