Mumbai leads in property registration in a decade with over 10,136 completed deals for April. Citing data from the Inspector General of Registration, Maharashtra, a report in
Economic Times said the completed deals led to stamp duty revenue collection of Rs 514 crore in April.
Buoyed by a cut in stamp duty along with resurgence in realty demand, housing sales in Mumbai in March 2021 increased 234 percent over the same period last year, according to a report by Knight Frank India.
While March 2020 noted registrations of 3,798 units, March 2021 saw 12,696 units being registered, said the report. ....

The Maharashtra government on Wednesday decided not to extend the two per cent stamp duty waiver on property registrations from April. It said it would reinstate its earlier system of five per cent stamp duty on property registrations from Thursday.
The state government had slashed the stamp duty charges to two per cent between August and December last year to boost the real estate market, which was facing a slowdown due to COVID-19 and the subsequent lockdown. It was made three per cent between January 1 and March 31. ....

In a setback to the real estate industry as well as flat buyers, the state government on Wednesday decided not to extend the cut on stamp duty on property registrations. Ready reckoner (RR) rates, though, remain unchanged for the 2021-22 financial year.
The slashing of stamp duty in Mumbai from 5% to 2% from September to December 2020, and 3% till March 31, 2021, had boosted residential realty sales.
On a brighter note, the 1% stamp duty waiver for women home buyers, as announced in the state budget on March 8, would come into effect from Thursday. The concession is only for residential units and not for land. Besides, the concession will not be applicable if there is a male co-owner of the unit. ....

State Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat on Wednesday said that there would not be any changes in the stamp duty rates announced in September last year. ....
