Burlington, Vermont voters will choose a mayor on Town Meeting Day March 2nd. Several of the candidates gathered recently for another forum.
Late last week the Vermont Institute of Community and International Involvement, the Association of Africans Living in Vermont and the Caroline Fund hosted a forum with four of the five candidates seeking the Burlington mayoral seat. Participating in the virtual forum were third-term Democratic Mayor Miro Weinberger, Progressive City Council President Max Tracy, Independent City Councilor Ali Dieng and independent Patrick White. The sponsors noted that they had learned just before the debate there is a fifth candidate – Will Emmons – but they were unable to include him in the forum.

Burlington voters will elect a mayor on Town Meeting Day, March 2nd. The incumbent Democrat and his challengers met recently for a virtual forum hosted by one of the city’s neighborhood planning assemblies.
The Burlington, Vermont ward system includes what are called Neighborhood Planning Assemblies, or NPAs. They are described by the city as grassroots groups that help improve communication and encourage residents to participate with city government.
The steering committees of Ward 2 and 3, which encompasses the city’s Old North End, hosted a forum between the mayoral candidates. Democratic Mayor Miro Weinberger is seeking his fourth term. Independent candidate and Ward 7 councilor Ali Dieng and Progressive City Council President Max Tracy participated in the virtual event.

A former Progressive mayor of Burlington, Vermont is endorsing Democratic incumbent Miro Weinberger for re-election ahead of Town Meeting Day in March.
Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger is seeking his fourth term in Vermont’s largest city. The Democrat is being challenged by Progressive City Council President Max Tracy.
On Thursday the city’s longest serving mayor, Progressive Peter Clavelle, who held the post for 16 years, announced that he is endorsing Weinberger: “We live in challenging times; times that require seasoned and tested leadership. Miro will provide the leadership that our City needs to emerge from the COVID pandemic stronger and better.”
