‘04 B.A. African American Studies My time at San José State University was a great transformation. As a transfer student in the spring of 1998 from the United States Military Academy at West Point where I played football in the fall of 1997, I arrived in San Jose deflated and depressed. I found positivity and inspiration within the Xi Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated in the spring of 1999, but later became homeless and distracted. Educator Preparation Institute (EPI) The Educator Preparation Institute (EPI) is an intensive competency-based alternative pathway to teacher certification. Through an accelerated program, individuals who have earned at least a bachelor’s degree in a non-Education major can satisfy the requirements to receive a professional teaching certificate from the state of Florida. While students enrolled in the EPI program can obtain certification in any of the areas offered by the Florida Department of Education, areas of high-need include: Exceptional Student Education (K-12), Mathematics Education (6-12), Science Education (6-12), and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) (K-12). Jan 21, 2021 Photo: Getty Images The statewide graduation rate for the class of 2019-20 is 82.6 percent, up 2.6 percentage points over the previous year and the highest graduation rate ever recorded in Oregon, according to data released today by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE). The increase means the four-year graduation rate has increased more than 10 percentage points compared to six years ago. The gap in high school graduation rates between most historically underserved student groups and the state average is smaller than in previous years as well. The year-to-year increase in graduation rates was greater for nearly every underserved student group than the increase in the state average, bringing those underserved student groups closer to the statewide average than ever before. ....
