The University of Lagos recently honoured some eminent personalities that have contributed to the development of the institution. They included the late Prof. Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe, a former Vice-Chancellor of the university, conferred posthumously with Emeritus Professorship, for his contribution to academics before his demise.

The Chancellor of First Technical University, Ibadan, Chief Tunde Alabi has called on Federal Government and other stakeholders in the education sector to improve the country’s educational system.
Alabi stated that revitalising the education sector will make more Nigerians developed and civilized.
He made this call on Monday while speaking at a farewell programme organised for the late First Tech-U Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Prof Oye Ibidapo-Obe.
Alabi noted that that late Ibidapo-Obe convinced many to support and invest in the nation’s education sector, describing him as a dedicated scholar and administrator who lived to move the education sector forward. ....

Before May 2017 when I was appointed the Pioneer Vice Chancellor, First Technical University, Ibadan, I only knew Professor Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe by his reputation, earned through his unassailable credentials. Shortly after my appointment, the then Governor of Oyo State and Visitor to the University, Senator Abiola Ajimobi (of the blessed memory), invited me for a meeting in his office to discuss my plans for the university. At the meeting were a few government officials, including the then Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Olalekan Alli. The governor then told me he was planning to appoint a substantive Pro-Chancellor for the university and he wanted my suggestion(s). ....

Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has described the death of former Vice -Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe, as a great loss to the nation.
Ibidapo-Obe died on January 3, 2021, after a brief illness. He was aged 71.
Fayemi in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, said the news of Professor Ibidapo-Obe’s death was received with shock and disbelief since the late vice chancellor did not exhibit any sign of illness during their last meeting.
The governor who is an alumnus of the University of Lagos, described the late Ibidapo-Obe as a distinguished scholar and seasoned administrator, who excelled in every assignment he undertook, adding that he demonstrated his commitment to excellence during his stint as the vice chancellor of the University between 2000 and 2007. ....
