STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI: The State government has allocated one-time assistance of Rs 10,50,000 to 29 scribes under the Journalists Medical Welfare Scheme. In this regard, a meeting was held at JMWS Committee chairman and Information and Public Relations Department commissioner secretary Pritam Saikia s office. With approval from other members and after observation and recommendation of senior doctors, the amount was allocated to the journalists. During the meeting, Committee s member secretary and Director of Information and Public Relations Anupam Choudhury deliberated on the scheme. ....

(File photo) GUWAHATI: The Assam government on Sunday revived its scheme to distribute two-wheelers among girl students who secured first division in Class 12 exams. Altogether, 22,245 girls will benefit from the ‘Pragyan Bharati’ scheme, under which each of those girls who secured first division (over 60% aggregate marks) in Class 12 state board exams this year will get a scooter. The state government will have to spend Rs 144.3 crore for this purpose. Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, while launching the award ceremony on Sunday, handed over scooter keys to five girls at the Dr Banikanta Kakaty Merit Award presentation ceremony in Kamrup district’s Amingaon.
