Queensland’s juvenile starlet Sweet Dolly passed her final gallop in preparation for Saturday’s $500K 2YO Jewel (1200m) at the Gold Coast in scintillating fashion early on Monday morning.
With race jockey Justin Stanley up, Rockhampton trainer Kevin Hansen chose to work the unbeaten filly on the grass course proper at Callaghan Park.
“I sent her out with stablemate, the open horse Casino Thoughts, with the idea for her to pick him up during the gallop but he pulled too hard so she never went with him,” Hansen said. ....

Rockhampton racing’s longest-serving current resident jockey John Stephens makes his return to race riding at Callaghan Park on Saturday after an absence of eight months.
Stephens, who has been associated and enjoyed major success with some highly talented horses during his career including Eye Liner Stakes winner Leroy’s Magic, has been off the scene since last June.
Ironically, in Saturday’s Open Handicap (1050m) at the Rockhampton Jockey Club’s Callaghan Park TAB races, he combines with one of the district’s most talented young sprinters in Lepreezy. ....

The rapport that coexists between horse and rider has been documented down through time.
It was on display at Rockhampton’s Callaghan Park racecourse last Friday when a little bay
thoroughbred mare and her sprightly trainer greeted each other in the winners’ stall.
There was the six-year-old mare Daunting Queen a model of consistency and her 72-year-old trainer Mary Hassam basking, albeit humbly in the sense of achievement a race win evokes.
Mary, of slender build and looking as fit as a fiddle would have fooled me if she divulged being 10 years younger. ....
