Notre deuxième volet des oubliées du 7e art consacre Lotte Reiniger. Fascinée par le théâtre d’ombres, la cinéaste allemande provoque un coup d’éclat artistique avec la sortie des « Aventures du prince Ahmed », en 1926, premier film d’animation de l’histoire.
Dans un royaume imaginaire, le prince Ahmed enfourche son cheval volant. Traversant les mondes, il atterrit sur l’île de Wak Wak. Au bord du rivage, apparaît la princesse Pari Banu, vêtue d’ailes d’oiseau. Les péripéties s’enchaînent à un rythme effréné, entre les manigances d’un mage diabolique, l’arrivée d’Aladin et sa lampe magique, un calife dépassé et des rencontres amoureuses sensuelles et contrariées sous les palmiers. Un château tombé du ciel en poussière d’étoiles constitue l’un des nombreux tableaux féeriques de cette œuvre pionnière du cinéma muet.
