NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Mrs Indira Gandhi’s ruling Congress today [March 11] won an absolute majority in the new Lok Sabha . with nearly 150 results in the just-ended election still to be announced. Some observers here were forecasting that she could have as many as two-thirds of the seats in the new 521-seat house. … Mrs Gandhi who herself set the trend by taking her constituency of Rae Bareilli in Uttar Pradesh with a margin of 111,000 votes told a Press conference . that she had won despite a “widespread hate campaign”. .

India–Bangladesh will commemorate Bangabandhu s historic speech at Kolkata

India and Bangladesh will jointly commemorate first ever visit by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to Kolkata on February 6.
The commemoration event will take place at historic Brigade parade ground. In 1972, Bangabandhu made his first visit to Kolkata on February 6. Indian Prime Minister Mrs Indira Gandhi received him at the then Dumdum Airport.
Both the leaders addressed a mammoth rally on that Brigade parade ground. During that visit, it was decided that India would withdraw its army from Bangladesh by March 1972.
Accordingly on March 1, India declared withdrawal of army from Bangladesh. ....
