Mobile’s “Society Shell” got its nickname because it was the place to hear Midtown gossip, not because it was the subject of it. But in recent days, social media posts have brought to light an ownership battle pitting brother against brother and nephew against uncle.
Longtime patrons of Griffith Service Station have been subjected to doubts about whether the dispute means the end of the station’s 63-year run, as co-owner Preston Griffith Jr. has asserted or whether the station and its staff remain “here to serve you for years to come, just as we have in the past,” as co-owner Stephen Griffith has said.
