Brockton mayor presents $493 million budget ahead of public hearings


BROCKTON  As the state begins to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, the city s mayor plans to present a proposed fiscal year 2022 budget that is nearly half a billion dollars.
I feel a lot better standing here this year as opposed to last year, Mayor Robert Sullivan said. Last year, the financial circumstances of the city and the commonwealth were unknown  really unknown.
Sullivan briefly presented his proposed $493,840,543 budget to the Brockton City Council on Tuesday evening during a special meeting, ahead of next week s annual budget hearings.
The city council s finance committee will meet on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week to hear from department heads, who will present their portions of the proposed budget. ....

Brockton considers improvements at D.W. Field Park after drownings

The signs, which are in English, are located in additional parts of the park, but contain several rules in addition to just a no swimming notice  including that the park is open dawn to dusk, feeding of ducks, geese and swans isn t allowed and more.
There are no signs about swimming, entering the water in general or about the depth of the water right near where two boys drowned on Saturday evening in Waldo Lake.
A spokesperson for the Plymouth County district attorney s office said Rafael Andrade, 13, and Tiago Depina, 12, who are cousins and both of Brockton, were skipping rocks in shallow water at Waldo Lake. ....
