tensions have been building ever since. mary snow is there witnessing the protesters and she s joining us there by phone. so, mary, give me an idea of what the police presence is like and is this crowd growing? it s been a massive crowd this morning, fredricka. down here in lower manhattan in the surrounding blocks around the new york stock exchange. we are on one intersection where there has been pretty much a standoff between police and protesters and there was a barricade up preventing them from going any closer to the new york stock exchange and on the last few minutes we have seen some arrests. people were carried out and how we have seen, also, more police showing up at this intersection where we are with handcuffs. the police got on the loud speaker just a short time ago telling protesters to get on the sidewalk. they have blocked the intersection in this block right near the stock exchange and it s pretty much protesters just kind of in this standoff with poli ....

more than 2.5 million homes and businesses are still without power. the death toll has risen to at least 43. and thousands of people have evacuated from flooded neighborhoods and communities. yet, flood advisories are still in place for portions of seven states. one of the towns hardest hit is little falls, new jersey, along the passaic river. mary snow is there with the latest. mary, this is the worst flooding in a century there. are things improving at all? reporter: it s hard to believe that looking at the river behind me things are improving. take a closer look at the passaic river. some really incredible sight here. the passaic river actually crested here on tuesday, seven feet above flood stage, and the water is receding, but you can see the fury of this water and gives you an idea of what towns along the passaic are coping with. we have a before and after shot in nearby patterson. we were there all day yesterday and there are parts of that city just inundated ....

first responders in rafts. in vermont, you re looking at i-report photos with the ground washed out from under the tracks. floods wiped out almost three roads and bridges in vermont alone, isolating 13 communities. as of this morning, relief workers on four wheel drive vehicles made their way into four of them. from north carolina to maine nearly 1.8 million homes and businesses are still waiting for the power to come back. and that s down from more than $6 million on sunday. 43 deaths now blamed on the hurricane and tropical storm. one was a survivor of the holocaust. i want to get back to new jersey where they cannot think about recovery while they are still doing rescues and evacuations. chris knolls is in little falls, a name that no longer fits. the passaic river is at record levels. any sign at all it s on its way down? reporter: this thing has not moved an inch for nine hours or so. it is swollen with record rainfall in august and then hit with another ten ....
