Navy Seabees built Kamala Harris and the secretary of the Navy Thomas Harker new desks 
Material came from historic warships including the USS Constitution and the USS Arizona 
Harris desk is made from wood, copper and nails from the USS Constitution, that was commissioned in 1794
Harker s desk is built from materials from six different ships including the Chesapeake, Texas and New Jersey
Inside the pen tray of each desk is a piece of the USS Arizona, which was sunk by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor
Construction of desks was approved under Donald Trump s administration  ....

Newark veterans invite Grant, Sherman and Hayes to Civil Warn reunion

NEWARK - In the spring of 1878, the “Soldiers and Sailors Society of Licking County” was busy planning for the reunion of the soldiers and sailors of Ohio on July 22, 1878.
The date had a special significance to the Ohio troops that fought in the Western Theater of the Civil War. It would be the 14th anniversary of the death of the beloved General James McPherson, who was killed at the Battle of Atlanta.
The reunion was advertised in newspapers across the state and personal invitations were sent out to a virtual who’s who of government officials and former commanders of the army inviting them to come and say a few words. Major Charles Dana Miller, as secretary of the society, wrote some of the letters. An invitation was mailed to former Lieutenant General and former President of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant. Miller wrote to Grant, who was touring Europe, on April 12, 1878. ....

Biden Redecorates Oval Office With More Science, Less Racism – The Mary Sue


Joe Biden got to work immediately yesterday, taking a seat in the oval office to sign a flurry of executive orders which will start to roll back some of the most harmful policies of the Trump administration. We’re already back in the World Health Organization and the Paris Climate Agreement; the Muslim ban is gone and Biden has launched a sweeping initiative to protect LGBTQ+ workers. But other changes happened yesterday too and they were far more tangible: Biden changed the art in the Oval Office to make a big statement.
It’s tradition for every President to decorate the Oval Office to reflect their taste and how they wish to govern. Unsurprisingly, Donald Trump placed emphasis in his decor on statues and portraits with racist undertones, most famously, a portrait of Andrew Jackson to the left of the desk.
