Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas (SWP) President Monico Puentevella makes his first appearance in the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum online edition on Tuesday.
The former Bacolod City mayor and congressman will be discussing the bid of Hidilyn Diaz to go all-out for the gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics. The 30-year-old Filipina will be making her fourth Olympic appearance five years after bagging the silver medal in the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Games.
Puentevella, also a former PSC commissioner, is likewise expected to talk about the bright future of the sport in the country especially in the wake of the Filipino lifters’ successful campaign in the recent Asian Weightlifting Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan led by Vanessa Sarno (two golds, one silver), Erleen Ando (three silvers), and Mary Flor Diaz (three silvers).
