We heard from reporters some of the residents say look, it s a category 1, i ve been through this before, not worried. it s two things. i think people heeded the preparedness message. some people have left. we saw a lot of that in new orleans, we saw kind of a very dying down when people paying heed to the population. we had a population over 35 last night. we expect that to pick up as kind of the big part of the storm, the rain kind of sets in, that second part of the disaster unfolds. leland: you wonder about the flooding farther inland. tell us about how your preparations are going up farther inland, in baton rouge, mobile and some of the other cities up north in mississippi where they re expecting the flooding as well. absolutely. that s actually been kind of the focus all around that baton rouge, northern louisiana area for the initial evacuations and we ve got volunteer teams and food and resources on the ready ....

Preparedness message and people are taking it seriously. the red cross has been preparing for this storm specifically since the beginning of the week, although we prepare 365 days a year for incidents like this. but i know here in north carolina, i m here in wilmington, north carolina, and we had hundreds of volunteers that were on standby and remain available to help with anything from feeding to bulk distribution of supplies to mental health support. anything that the community needs at this point. and what s the scene like on the ground there in north carolina from the red cross perspective? you know, we ve been through a whole lot worse, i can definitely say that. we did open a number of shelters, evacuation shelters yesterday. we had around 14 shelters open. just under about 300 people that needed to evacuate and needed that shelter. right now we re still getting in initial damage assessment reports and we have a number of ....

him minutes ago. okay. we re going to stand by for that. and chad myers, tell me where the storm is now. ashleigh and jeff were on the same road. they were on the same road together? going different directions. ashleigh is going toward st. louis, jeff is to the west driving toward the tornado. they crossed each other, obviously didn t see each other because it s raining so hard. but they went the opposite direction. jeff is following that storm it did some damage near bird s eye, it had to, indiana. but there is an even larger tornado that i m very worried about it. it s to the northwest of louisville by maybe 30 miles but it is on the ground doing damage. new peak in indiana is in the way of this tornado. if you know anybody in that area, they just need to take cover. and these now are so big that you don t have to wait. if you see a dark cloud literally, you know a storm is coming your way, don t wait for the weather service to put out a warning. just take you ....
