good evening, everyone. we begin the reidout with a thing we really haven t seen in a long, long, long time. a forthright, open, democratic, dare i say progressive defense of government. now, i am old enough to remember bill clinton responding to the reagan and reaganomics by saying us too. the era of big government is over but courtesy of the democrats. that was a political calculation that i guess made sense at the time. reagan was still popular and sainted by republicans and so-called reagan democrats. and when president obama came along and was faced with this massive economic hole that george w. bush left the country in, he too felt constrained to couch the response in terms of, not spending too much money, keeping the economy, rescuing stimulus package under $1 trillion and kind of downplaying anything that looked like big government. and not too much braggadocio, especially from the black president. oh, god, no, no, no. well, enter joe biden. fresh off his prime-time
door fast. nbc s exclusive sit-down with the treasury secretary on when the money will hit accounts and criticisms the package is just too big. are you spending too much? i don t believe we ve overshot the mark. plus, what we know about that new accelerated vaccine timeline. can the white house keep promises made in the president s prime time address? and can cities and states keep up? i m hallie jackson in washington on this friday morning, nbc s monica alba and kristen welker are at the white house, we re joined by dr. joshua sharpstein. ellison barber is with us as well. kristen, look ahead to what we can expect at the rose garden and next week across the country as it appears important to the white house, the president, his aides and advisers they get out and sell this package that just passed. reporter: that s the keyword, hallie, sell. that is what we are going to see from president biden and vice president harris. he s going to hold a signing ceremony for that
there s a press conference planned by the floyd family a few hours from now. more on all of that straight ahead this hour. it s a big day for white house. roughly 15 minutes from now the white house covid-19 response team will be holding its briefing. a few hours after that, president biden and democratic congressional leaders will talk about the american rescue plan. big news for all of us. president biden just late out a new vaccination time line. you may want to turn up the volume. you do not want to forget these days. may 1st, that s when president biden says he will direct all states to make every adult eligible for a vaccine by that day. it doesn t mean doses will be available by then. the white house hopes for that to happen by the end of may. let s not forget, it s going to take time for people to actually get that shot or get those shots. if all goes according to plan, we could have a sense of normalcy by july 4th, according to president biden. the president hopes
but at the same time here, the whole notion of this again, deep-seated sexism and not believing women and the power structures in this country that have suppressed a woman s ability to be able to tell her story generation after generation. so all of this is being triggered. some of it may be unfair to judge kavanaugh. but the fact that the fbi needs to get in there and investigate is absolutely important. are you surprised at the measured tone that president trump took today, praising professor ford, saying the week delay is fine? astonished. invasion of the body snatchers. yes. but this is how we ve gone through the looking glass. donald trump, right, who is a wild man, was measured and respectful and especially respectful to dr. ford. brett kavanaugh, who is the polished prep school boy, who everybody thought was going to be just and tells you he s a saint, just ask him. he came unhinged. he was the one he was more
