$25 million bridge to nowhere. he s giving arizona all that cash to put a footbridge over a dried-up river. there s nothing around it. there s a few warehouses, a couple of hiking trails, and some empty lots. why are they building it? the mayor says this bridge could make phoenix the birdwatching capital of america. our state ranks third in the nation for birdwatching. this is one of the premiere locations. many of my fellow mayors are jealous today. jesse: not a single mayor is jealous of your $25 million birdwatching footbridge to nowhere. not a single one. it s not just the birds. you see, phoenix has plenty. bridges crossing that river, plenty, but this one is different. this one is equitable. this project addresses so many of our shared priorities. sustainability and equity. the south phoenix community predominantly black and hispanic communities have dealt with underinvestment, being overburdened and underserved, ....
