The Ministry of Health on April 13 reported the country's 33rd Covid-19 death and another 181 transmission cases, all but three of which were linked to the February 20 community outbreak.
In Battambang province, deputy governor Soeurm Bunrith said that less than 90 workers are returning each day.
“During the same period last year, over 1,000 workers returned [a day]. But this year, the number is less. It is very different from previous years,” he said on April 8, noting that many workers might have returned due to the Covid-19 outbreak in Thailand early this year.
“Workers don’t return for the celebration because they know authorities will quarantine them for 14 days,” he said, adding that 1,596 Cambodian migrant workers are currently in quarantine in Battambang.
In Banteay Meanchey province, deputy provincial governor Ros Sophany said the number of returning workers before the New Year holiday was also much lower compared to previous years.

The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) in 2014 estimated that at least 770,000 people had been affected by land grabs that cover some 4 million hectares of land. Sources say Indigenous communities are more adversely affected by land grabs because the land is often central to their animist beliefs and their livelihoods, and they are even less likely to be afforded justice than ethnically Khmer victims.
FIDH, along with Global Witness and Climate Counsel, submitted an open letter dated March 16 to Fatou Bensouda, the current prosecutor at the International Criminal Court (ICC), urging her to open a preliminary examination into land-grabbing in Cambodia.

‘Trafficked’ teen seeks repatriation from China

Preah Vihear provincial anti-human trafficking police are cooperating with the National Police’s Department of Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection to help a Cambodian teenager who says she is being held against her will in China.
This intervention by the authorities came about after the victim posted to Facebook from China on March 4 asking Prime Minister Hun Sen to assist her return to Cambodia.
Prang Thida, deputy provincial police chief for anti-human trafficking, told The Post that the victim was a 17-year-old Cambodian girl who had previously resided in Preah Vihear province.
