DALTONGANJ: For Left-Wing Extremism-hit districts of Latehar and Chatra, posters pasted on walls by Maoists are common. However, this time, it is the district police who are pasting posters aimed at Maoists to remind them that the use of landmines, which has led to the death of several innocent villagers in the recent times, is an act of cowardice.
Latehar SP Prashant Anand said, “Maoists have been warned to abstain from using landmines as they have taken several lives. Poor villagers venture into the jungles to collect dry wood, fruits and leaves, but fall victim to the mines kept as booby traps by extremists to target security forces.”
Daltonganj: One woman died and the other sustained an injury in an IED blast triggered by Maoists at Pandra forest in Garu police station area of Latehar on Saturday. Police said Ravinder Ganjhu’s squad, that exchanged fire with the security forces recently, had laid down the booby trap in the jungles to target the forces.
Latehar SP Prashant Anand, who was overseeing the combing operation in the jungle, said, “The jungle is dotted with numerous improvised explosive devices. Security forces have recovered a good number of land mines. Some blood trails have also been found, which indicate Maoists have suffered injuries too. Police have recovered shoes and walkie-talkie sets.”
Daltonganj: Back-to-back incidents of Maoist violence in Latehar district kept security forces on their toes in the past two days. On Friday night, a rebel named Pradip Ganjhu, along with a few miscreants, set on fire four trucks and a bike near Tetariyakhar colliery under Balumath police station. The trucks were engaged in coal transportation. The incident left four truck cleaners injured, police said.
SP Latehar Prashant Anand said a hand-written note signed by Ganjhu was found at the colliery site. “In the note, Ganjhu has warned all those associated with the colliery to first seek permission from gangster Sujit Boss for their activities,” he said, adding, “The purpose behind the attack is to create terror and to coerce the colliery management into working according to the demands of the Maoists and the gangsters.”
