The Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) has demanded exemplary action against Prashant Nair, managing director of Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation (KSINC), for responding with a sticker with sexual overtones when a woman journalist of a Malayalam daily sought to speak with him for a news story.
The KUWJ protested the officer’s ‘unseemly’ behaviour towards the journalist who was trying to get his response to a controversy involving the company headed by him and also took exception to the social media post made by the officer’s wife “which denigrated the entire media fraternity”. The union petitioned Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Chief Secretary Vishwas Mehta seeking action against the officer. ....

Social e-commerce platform ShopG on Wednesday announced to have raised $1.5 million in a seed funding round led by Orios Venture Partners and RPSG Ventures. Angel investors such as Rajesh Yabaji, Raghunandan G, Prasanth Nair, and Alibaba also participated in the round.
Started in Nov 2019, the company has built a social commerce platform powered by micro-entrepreneur community leaders that is changing the way the next 500 million customers beyond India s top cities shop for their daily household needs.
The infusion of new funds will be used for expanding the community leader network in tier III and tier IV cities, scaling technology, building a supply of small regional brands, and creating a suite of direct-to-costumer (D2C) branded products. ....

KSINC bets big on cruise voyages, targets ₹100-crore biz next fiscal

Pinning hopes on inland water transport, coastal shipping and tourism, the Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation is eyeing a doubling of its business revenue to ₹100 crore in the next financial year.
Against the targeted turnover of ₹50 crore in the current fiscal, the state-owned entity has clocked ₹20 crore in Q3 despite setbacks to various activities on account of the pandemic.
However, the re-opening of tourism destinations will undoubtedly boost the cruise trips offered by vessels

Sagararani to Arabian Sea that would further mop up the revenue, said Prasanth Nair, Managing Director, KSINC.
The company has recorded a profit of nearly ₹1 crore in 2019-20. The focus on tourism activities has started generating income especially with the cruises which is evident from the enthusiastic customer bookings, he said. ....
