Senate Gives Hope to U.S. Importers Affected by Section 301 Tariffs | Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP


On May 27, 2021, the Senate voted to amend the
United States Innovation and Competition Act (the Act), formerly the
Endless Frontier Act, a bill that started as an effort to increase the United States’ competitive advantage in the world through investments in research and technology, but that has morphed into a broad China-centered legislative package including trade components. Included in the package is an amendment, entitled the
Trade Act of 2021, which would allow substantial opportunities for importers to obtain relief from the Section 301 tariffs currently imposed on certain Chinese-origin products.

Between 1850 and 1937, the U.S. Pharmacopoeia listed cannabis as a medicine for more than 100 separate diseases and illnesses. But, since its removal from the U.S. Pharmacopoeia in 1937, education around medical cannabis has been largely absent in most mainstream medical, nursing and healthcare provider training curricula. 
Fortunately, as we know, cannabis is making a comeback, with more and more patients choosing it over prescription drugs and other over-the-counter medications.
