good evening, everyone. tonight, we have two big breaks stories. one is hurricane irene now officially a major storm. the view here from space it is huge. category 3 and getting stronger this hour. now pointed straight at the carolinas and threatening the entire northeastern seaboard. we ll have a lot of details about that tonight. the other breaking story, of course, libya and the hunt for gadhafi. the opposition s already got his cap. this guy took it out of his palace. now they want that head that goes with it and they re willing to pay. $2.5 million for the dictator dead or alive, they say. one of his sons still at large is sending e-mails to our nick robertson. nick just got another one a few minutes ago and he joins us shortly. in the meantime, heavy fighting today in tripoli. take a look. Hours. tropical storm force winds with hurricane force winds, the worst of which happened during the overnight hours and into the early morning. it was not just wind, though. pounding waves, incredible surf. we have video showing you some of the tall waves, the wind at times impossible to stand still with being battered around. the winds and the waves created flooding right along the coast, many streets impassable due to the water coming on shore. tree limbs broken throughout island. with the shattered tree limbs they hit those power lines, power lines of course toppled down caused power outages. this island is bermuda s home for 67,000 people. two-thirds are waking up without power. if this follows through very similar in terms of the recovery efforts back in 2003 with hurricane fabian. in that situation it took areas up to three weeks for power restoration. hopefully not as bad. as we wrap things up despite ....

Showers, strong gusts could be expected along the coast. this storm, though, may retain its power and little bit of its may just stick together. at least a category 1. that s the forecast for the national hurricane center from later this afternoon, into the evening, as we get into tomorrow morning, 2:00 a.m., winds expected to be around 85 miles per hour. there is a chance the storm could make landfall. yes, landfall possible by cape cod and for that very reason, we have a hurricane warning that s in effect for the cape cod area. strong winds can be expected there. possibly in excess of 85 miles per hour. heavy rain and also some pounding waves can be expected. the effect this is going to have on air travel could be very big. especially all across the northeast corridor, airports in new york. perhaps even newark airport and maybe even logan and boston. frustrating day for a lot of people. it could have been far worse. could have been worse. so far so good in a lot of ways. we will ....
