day of the truce? as we enter the final hours of the six-day truce agreement between israel and hamas, there is new hope that new optimism is coming just this morning from a qatari official. the spokesman for the foreign ministry which has been key in brokering these deals between israel and hamas tells cnn that they are hopeful that they could announce another extension in just the next couple of hours. if not, israel has made clear that they will resume military operations against hamas in gaza. we are expecting another group of hostages to be released today even before this any talk of an extension. their families have been notified and with that, we have learned that the bevis family is not among the hostages and kfir is not among the hostages. they do not know where the bibas family. the israeli hostages have been freed since friday. with ten new releases as you just heard late last night, but still many, many more are being held in gaza. israel believes there is 161 h
41st president. although, i will say, and, you know, the private relationship was real. but they were also conscious of the power of their public relationship. and it was president bush 43 who first enlisted them on tsunami and hurricane katrina. as they started to appear together in public, including going to a baseball game together, the crowd who you would cheer. and you can imagine half the crowd can t stand president clinton, half the crowd can t stand president bush, but they loved seeing them together and they recognized and they came to realize the power their friendship had on the country. in an increasingly toxic bitter campaign, and yet come together both as friends and in serving their country, in doing the relief and charitable efforts that that ended up being the priority of their post-presidencies. these men, and so far it s parent trap. we want unity here.
so this is the first time we will see them in a pew together along with hillary clinton and jeb bush and the cast of characters of our political dramas of our lifetimes. that is an extraordinary thing. we just came off a period of having five living former presidents, which was a very rich period for lovers of history in the presidency. and now we have five u.s. presidents. that s right. and, you know, one of the reasons they ve become this club of theirs has become important is because our presidents are living longer. you know, you have ronald reagan and gerald ford as well as president bush and jimmy carter now still alive, living well into their 90s. and so their post-presidencies can sometimes be, in some ways, as consequential as their presidencies were. certainly jimmy carter says i was a better ex-president than i was a president. they have an unusual alliance that totally transcends ideological differences. because they ve sat in the chair
and bakari sellers, he also came to trump s defense on the nfl controversy. on the issue of the nfl, he said, players kneeling excuse me, the article said, carter was less sympathetic. i think they ought to find a different way to object, to demonstrate. i would rather see all the players stand during the american anthem. well, i mean, with all due respect to one of my favorite presidents, who s had one of the best post-presidencies of any president in the history of the country, he s wrong. and, you know, that s the blessing of the united states of america. we can criticize our leaders and hold them accountable for what they say. but jimmy carter is a southern democrat, through and through. and in this instance, i mean, he s soon a lot. and so to question these protest tactics, i think is just flat-out wrong. and even in the article, if you go further, he talks about, confederate monuments and him wanting confederate monuments to stay up. and i think in that instance, he s wrong a
these people who are going to be out of luck. of course it s an economic issue. no one is debating that. i would actually argue it s a moral issue as well. creating jobs for people who have been out of work a long time is a moral issue. i think it s one of the defining issues of our time. you have millions of americans who are out of work, 11 million long term unemployed in this country. extending unemployment is not going to help those people. so extending all right, all right. i don t get that. it s a political whim of the day. if you want to solve the problem, look at is this working. no, it isn t. what can we do that will work? let s get to the good stuff. susan, winners and losers, 2013. your winner? my winner would be the marriage equality movement. we have seen such incredible momentum behind the effort to recognize and allow same sex marriage now permitted in 18 states, twice as many as at the beginning of the year. brad? politically, george w. bush is a big w
