GURUGRAM/NOIDA: OPD services at many private and state-run facilities were hit across the National Capital Region (NCR) and several cities across the country as doctors lent support to the Indian Medical Association’s nationwide strike against the Centre’s move to allow post-graduate ayurveda practitioners to be trained to perform surgical procedures.
The IMA said nearly 3.5 lakh doctors across the country withdrew OPD as well as non-emergency and non-Covid services during the 12-hour strike from 6am to 6pm. ....

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called for a nationwide doctors’ strike on December 11, to protest against the government notification which authorises post-graduate practitioners in specified streams of Ayurveda to train and perform general surgical procedures.
The nationwide protests are to take place at 10,000 different locations across the country to protest against the government notification listing surgeries that Ayurveda practitioners can perform. This may cause major disruptions in healthcare services across the country amid the Covid-19 pandemic. ....

IMA strike: Several Bengaluru private hospital OPDs remain operational

Despite Indian Medical Association (IMA) calling for a nation-wide strike of doctors and shut down of OPDs in private hospitals, several private hospitals in Bengaluru kept their out-patient departments (OPDs) operational  on Friday. 
The IMA s nation-wide strike is against the Union government s decision to allow ayurveda students to obtain general surgery training. On November 20, the Central Council of Indian Medicine, which regulates ayurveda education, issued a notification that ayurveda graduates with postgraduate degrees can now be trained in 58 surgical procedures from modern medicine.
The IMA criticised the move and questioned the competence of Ayurveda medical students to carry out these procedures. They stated that such an outcome would be a public health hazard. Major private hospitals in Bengaluru, including Apollo Hospital (Jayanagar), Fortis Hospital, and Motherhood Hospitals kept their OPDs operational for the ....
