Liccardo declared victory in his race for mayor of san jose. The city council held a rare friday meeting this morning to talk about calling an independent investigator to look into the p. O. A. Action. The allegations are the police union is actively telling recruits not to stay on the force, or to stay on for one or two years, and then quit. Those are allegations the p. O. A. Adamantly denies. Liccardo concedes a fullblown investigation could have more damaging effects on the citys relationship with police, so he wants, and the council approved, to instead do an internal inquiry before calling on an independent investigator. I think given the tensions that already exist, the best thing we can do as a city is find ways to start rebuilding. And i think thats where we all share some common interests. Id like to start there.
