(Pocket-lint) - A fully electric version of the Porsche Macan has been confirmed and it ll arrive in 2023. We know this because - after testing at the Porsche Development Centre in Weissach -  a prototype of the car has been photographed on roads in Germany.
Porsche s engineering director has been speaking to the BBC s TopGear about the new vehicle which has the working name of E Macan.
Michael Steiner says: It will look like a typical Porsche and fulfil your expectations of an electric vehicle. It is a typical Macan but much more modern and sporting. The Macan is Porsche s biggest seller, so this is a key vehicle for the brand, though Steiner is clear there will also be a new version of the standard combustion engine Macan before 2023 a ....

Latest roof-mounted cargo pod tested at speeds of more than 200km/h
Porsche Tequipment and design consultant Studio FA Porsche have jointly created an all-new roof box with aerodynamic efficiency and performance unmatched by its rivals.
Tested in Porsche Development Centre’s wind tunnel in Weissach, Porsche’s accessories arm says its latest roof box has been thoroughly tested at speeds of up to 200km/h to ensure it can withstand the toughest conditions.
Sadly, there’s no word on how fast a roof box-equipped Porsche can be driven at, nor if the car-maker attempted a Nurburgring lap record with the boot-extender mounted up top. ....

Porsche unveils new electric drive housing from 3D printing and additive manufacturing

Porsche unveils new electric drive housing from 3D printing and additive manufacturing
Alvin Reyes - Dec 29, 2020, 5:29am CST
Porsche has unveiled its first-ever electric drive housing created entirely using 3D printing and additive manufacturing technology. According to the German carmaker, 3D printing and its latest additive laser fusion process are opening new possibilities in creating high-stress components for low-volume series production.
“This proves that additive manufacturing with all its advantages is also suitable for larger and highly-stressed components in electric sports cars,” says Falk Heilfort, Project Manager in the Powertrain Advance Development department at Porsche Development Centre in Weissach.
Porsche’s 3D-printed drive housing is 10-percent lighter than a similar part created using traditional casting techniques. It benefits from unique lattice structuring in high-stress areas that only became possible due to 3D pr ....
