Turkey finds no support in Geneva for "two state solution" in Cyprus


During yesterday’s contacts, Turkish-speaking Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar, with the support of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, also submitted a six-point written memorandum, in which he expressed his demand for a change in sovereign equality.
In essence, he called on the UN Secretary General to proceed with maneuvers that would lead to the recognition of the pseudo-state of the so-called “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus,” which has no international recognition, except from Turkey.
The so-called “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” (TRNC), is an illegal entity established after the Turkish invasion of northern Cyprus in 1974.
It is recognised by no other state in the world besides Turkey, and was deemed an illegal entity by United Nations Security Council resolutions 541 and 550. ....

Lebanese President Michel Aoun stressed on Thursday the importance of continuing the border demarcation negotiations with Israel and what he described as honest and fair mediation by the US. The American delegation is headed by Assistant Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hill.
Aoun pointed out that he is entrusted with Lebanon s sovereignty, rights and interests and will not overlook them while working to spare the country from the negative repercussions that may arise from any careless attitude. All possible efforts should be made to ensure consensus and not disagreement among the Lebanese people over the demarcation of the border with Israel. ....

BAGHDAD Iraq’s prime minister asked Iran s leaders to rein in Iran-backed militias in Iraq and in a strongly worded message to Tehran, suggested he would confront the factions, two Iraqi officials said Wednesday.
Mustafa al-Kadhimi s statement came as the third round of strategic talks with Washington got under way, the first under President Joe Biden. The talks held virtually because of the pandemic began in June and are expected to center on an array of issues, including the presence of remaining U.S. combat forces in Iraq and Iran-backed groups acting outside of state authority. ....
