sacrifice themselves on the basic principle that we should live free. while the cause is the same everyone has a different reason for serving. maybe they are following in their father s footsteps or felt a calling after the terrorists tore down the twin towers. for me it was a patriotic parade or a series of them in a small town. motherly day and fourth of july parades in a tiny town in southern minnesota where my parents grew up. the whole town lined up on the tree sign side of the main street waiting for the veterans to walk by and when they came older vets and younger vets, crowd clapped and saluted. the reverence that town had for the veterans made me say, wow, those men really did something special. something bigger than this town. something bigger than themselves. these men were willing to put on a uniform and face danger for me, a kid they never met. it was just a handful of veterans, from one town. but every town in america gave men like that. out of sheer patri ....
these are just the latest communities to grapple with gun violence. it s something highland park, illinois, understands very well after that community was ripped apart by a shooting last independence day. how that town is remembering the victims later this hour. let s start in texas where police are looking for a suspect in downtown forth worth last night that claimed the lives of three and injured eight others. the shooting occurred during a celebration called como fest. a motive is still unclear, and authorities are asking for any information involving this shooting. and then to philadelphia, a gunman wearing a bullet proof vest open fire. the latest victim found early this morning in a house. two people have been taken into custody and a motive has yet to be determined. george, what are investigators doing this morning? reporter: good morning, ana. investigators are back at the scene today looking for any witnesses, looking for video of this mass shooting. as y ....
happened and what do we know about the suspected gunman? reporter: good morning. frankly, the scene was all-out chaos. it spanned several blocks. police apprehending a 40-year-old man carrying an ar-style rifle, a handgun and a scanner. police say he surrendered and they were able to take him into custody. as that was happening, police also apprehended a second suspect who was apparently returning fire at the suspect who initially opened fire in this southwest philadelphia neighborhood. now, a number of shell casings were recovered at the scene. police will be back at the scene to look for video, talk to witnesses, get any information they can. we know two young victims were wounded in this shooting. a toddler, a 2-year-old and a 15-year-old. a third man was also found in a home near the site of the shooting. police believe he was connected to the mass shooting. again, there is a lot to unravel here as this investigation unfolds this morning. take a listen to the poli ....
