Long Island community celebrates WWII veteran s 100th birthday with car parade Replay Video UP NEXT A community on Long Island showed its appreciation for a World War II veteran as it organized a car parade for the man s 100th birthday. Gary Inzerillo turned 100 on Sunday, and to celebrate, Nassau County officials teamed up with Honor Flight Long Island for a birthday party and car parade. The festivities for Inzerillo began Sunday morning on Paul Avenue in New Hyde Park with a formal celebration with elected officials, the Girl Scouts, Honor Flight members, and seven WWII wives. The parade afterward included Nassau County Police Department vehicles, 14 WWII military vehicles carrying 16 WWII Veterans, fire department vehicles, and a number of family vehicles. ....

LONG ISLAND, NY As the threat of new violence and unrest hangs heavy over a nation rocked by the events of Jan. 6, when riotous right extremists descended upon the U.S. Capitol, local Long Island police are amping up patrols and taking measures to keep the public safe. Suffolk County Police said while there has currently been no threat, the department continues to communicate with federal partners. Recently, Suffolk Police said, they participated in a Zoom meeting with the Major Cities Chiefs Association and United States Conference of Mayors to discuss the violent events that transpired in Washington D.C. This served as an opportunity for law enforcement across the country to share intelligence and discuss concerns and strategies for maximizing public safety. ....
