stay boosted through the fall. okay. kaitlan collins, matt egan, thank you both. let s bring in a pair of cnn political commentators now. former republican congressman charlie dent and democratic strategist maria cardona. good to have you both here. maria, president biden and democrats, they were gaining some momentum. a new npr/marist poll has the president s approval at 44%. that s up from a low of 36% in this same poll back in july. but voters still say inflation and the economy that is their top concern, their biggest issue. so how damaging could this opec development end up being for democrats? i think it depends on what happens between now and the election, ana and what the white house is able to do about it. as kaitlan mentioned they are looking at every popgs they have on the table. but look, i think at this point voters absolutely they re concerned about indplags, they re concerned about the economy. and the administration has a lot to say about accomplishments on the econ
prototype of their governing strategy, which is to pass so many extreme and unpopular laws from basically banning abortion to allowing you to carry a gun without a permit to whitewashing how history is taught, to extreme voter suppression laws. they want to be able to do all of this extreme stuff without any accountability, and that s why they re doing the gerrymandering and the voter suppression, so they can essentially override the will of the voters who want to hold them accountable. the thing is they re not satisfied to do this in places like texas and arkansas. they re coming for blue states. they made a run at the california governorship, trying to unseat the governor and replace him with a trumper. this governor in virginia, he s talking the same way that trump is, just at a lower volume, and if he gets in, the challenge democrats are going to have is that he, too, will be in position to mess with the vote in virginia in 2024, and i feel like at this point voters need to be si
here is the deal. we ll generate enough money to be able to pay for universal child care four times over. most people don t have $ $50 million in assets. i think it is well individually. if you put them all together the government will do everything for you, universal health care, i think at some point voters say i don t know. is it really the 50 million plus people? i think it s not the way to appeal to the voters they need to appeal back over. democrats took back the house. they were for reasonably liberal policies but they were mostly about restoring normal si and sensible government and i think
coming out, journalists are doing their work. all of that is a good process, but, you know, a debate about impeachment at this point is premature on both sides. but i do think that democrats are going to particularly in the house are going to be fighting with their progressive base who do want to see an impeachment and that s going to be up to well, we think nancy pelosi to keep that part of her caucus in check. right. there is no constituency in the core of the democratic party in congress i don t disagree with you, jeffrey, i m just saying this this is going to be a pressure that they are going to feel. i don t think that pressure is very strong. the people know that impeachment is going nowhere at the moment. i mean, in the senate. it s just not worth it. yeah, i mean, that s why i find orrin hatch s remarks so helpful because at some point voters will have enough information and they will have to make their own decisions. if they are okay with michael cohen going to
