up and go. and so that s when we do. and it was a little nerve wracking in the stairwell. nobody knew what was going on. but we did feel the tremors. reporter: were you able to get out properly. it was a little congested. we ve got a lot of floors to get out. a lot of people, but there was a moment in which we all couldn t get out of the building immediately because we were backlogged in there. reporter: how long were you at you re welcome desk before you moved? i would say five or ten minutes is when we eventually started to get up and out of there and evacuate from the 14th floor. but it took a good amount of time to get out of the building because there was congestion in the stairwell. reporter: when you heard, did you hear it was at what point ditd youd know did you know it was aircraft that hit the building? everybody in the stairwell was checking the news. we were so congested. we weren t able to get out fast. so once everyone was checking
it s not clear how many. and it sounds like it was only on the helicopter at this point. the fire broke out on the building when this helicopter either made a controlled crash landing or called an emergency and hit the roof and a fire broke out. it seems like the fire department was able to get it out quite quickly. you keep mentioning you re looking at perhaps a different video of the top of this building. i don t see what appears to be smoke. it looks like either gray rain or clouds up at the top of that building. it may be a little grayer coming off the top of that building, but that may be the natural rain coming off the top of that building. it s hard to see if there s anything left of this crash right now. do you know quickly, was there a helicopter a helicopter pad on top of the building? i just keep wondering was this pilot thinking i got to get this
there have been other people? that tail number gives you all the answers. all the answers. shimon, let me bring you in. we know i just got handed this piece of paper. the ntsb will determine probable cause of the accident and be in charge. what is the faa doing? yeah. i think at this point from my understanding is investigators are in a briefing on the scene. the nypd, the fire department, the fbi, other officials there in new york city have huddled outside of this building, and they re now going over all of the information that they have that they ve been able to obtain. everyone is in that briefing now. and i suspect that after that briefing, we re going to get an update from officials there in new york city. so that could happen with any moment at this point. what s been going on since this crash, really, is that the nypd are working with the faa and the
what anyone around the area has seen, no pieces of degree. nothing falling on people. shimon s point about had it been a bigger fire, it would have filled the stairwell, what would have happened to the people who evacuated. all things big picture to keep in mind. totally. and when you think about the ntsb and they re investigation, we re probably learn how it landed at some point, and was it a fact that this pilot did save lives. my mind goes to the miracle on the hudson. that plane landed in the hudson river, and everyone on board was safe, and it avoided buildings and any sort of destruction along its path. smaller scale, but at the same time it s remarkable to hear this happening from beginning to end. seeing these pictures that remind you of things that happened in new york. and it s going to be another story. yep. bryn, thank you very much. david soucie, let me loop back to you.
big question for investigators, for the ntsb, which is in charge of this investigation. that s what s going on at the scene. they re going to gather the information. they re talking to the faa. they re talking to air traffic control over new york to try and figure out exactly what was going on. i think they have a good indication of where this helicopter was coming from and who this helicopter belongs to. it s a question of for us, to wait to get that information from authorities at this point. yeah. you are probably right on the money that they are having these conversations and they will hold a news conference as soon as they possibly can to just let the public in on what has happened, how it s happened and who has died. shimon, thank you, stay close. let me play a little more sound. more eyewitnesss from in and around the scene as far as what they saw, what they heard. it took a half hour to get from the 29th floor down to the ground floor.
