Flames spread quickly as almost all of the houses in the area were made of light materials. Earlier in the day, a fire in Sitio Caimito in the same barangay destroyed four houses and damaged three. January 10, 2021 TWO contingents that signed up for the Sinulog 2021 ritual showdown are asking for a refund. The Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) and the steering committee of Sinulog 2021 recently announced the cancelation of all Sinulog cultural performances this month. Contingents may still be able to perform in April during the celebration of 500 years of Christianity in the country, but only if the coronavirus threat abates. San Nicolas Proper Barangay Captain Clifford Jude Niñal said he already spent more than P100,000 for the barangay’s contingent. Before starting preparations and rehearsals in November last year, he said he took out a loan to pay for the participants’ costumes and props. ....

(SFI) and the steering committee led by Cebu City Vice Mayor Michael Rama as overall convener made these announcements on Thursday, Jan. 7. During a meeting the day before, the group had decided to record all performances beforehand and show these online instead, given the threat of the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic. ....
