Twitter blocks access to dozens of Indian accounts after ‘genocide’ posts

Twitter on Monday blocked access to dozens of Indian accounts posting about an ongoing agitation by farmers, reportedly at the orders of the federal government, amid fears of protests on the social media platform spilling onto the streets in a repeat of last week’s violence at the heart of the nation’s capital. 
The
Hindustan Times reported that the order has come from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and applicable to nearly 250 accounts that allegedly amplified a hashtag that could have disturbed peace. Under India’s IT Act, the government reserves the power to “impose reasonable restrictions” on accounts that pose a threat to national security.  ....

Twitter freezes Caravan, Kisan Ekta Morcha, Prasar Bharti CEO accounts
The social media giant says it has withheld a bunch of accounts ‘in response to a legal demand’.
In a surprising development, Twitter has withheld the account of the
Caravan magazine in India “in response to a legal demand”. The accounts of activists Md Asif Khan and Hansraj Meena, actor Sushant Singh, Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempati, Marxist leader Mohammed Salim, and Kisan Ekta Morcha handle have suffered the same fate.
Vinod Jose, executive editor of the
Caravan, said Twitter did not notify them about the move beforehand. “We have no idea [about why this has happened]. We have no public or private information. We are waiting to know why they have withheld the account,” he added. ....
