Looking patients in the eyes. they are the people who have to explain this law to the patients, and have to deny them that care. and it is heart breaking when they are there, to care for people, they have dedicated their lives to this work and they re fully trained, highly professional medical folks denying people care just because of politics. and so we had to make these decisions on an individual basis, people have had to look at their own risks and comfort level, and, you know, staff are opting in and some staff are opting out and that s completely fine with us. we understand there is a lot of risk to navigate here. but we do have a few physicians and few staff who felt comfortable enough with judge pitman s injunction to resume care. and we have others who are waiting to see what happens next with the fifth circuit and potentially the supreme court. as you wait for that, i would encourage people to read your op-ed in the statesman and the l.a. times where you write very eloquentl ....
Pitman writes and i quote the other courts may find a way to avoid this conclusion and it is theirs to decide. this court will not sanction one more day of this offensive deliberation of such an important right. it is a strong denunciation, laura, of this law. the supreme court of the united states, their decision not to actually rule on the underlying constitution ty or somebody thumbing their nose at the valid roe v wade. remember, this is about the deprivation of what has been established under the supreme court press dealt for roe v wade talking about equal protection to the 14th amenlamendment. they sued this particular state based on this in violation in part of the clause as well about federal law being able to preempt and of course, the establish precedent of roe v wade and about how the end runaround judicial review ....
And so this was designed to try to stop abortions by any means necessary in the state of texas. the judgment judge pitman gave us today is much needed. most clinics, especially the whole women s health clinics, we have long waiting lists of people who said, please call us back if we can still get an abortion in the state of texas, because we can t travel outside of the state. you know, like i ve told you before, most of our patients seeking abortion care are parenting already. they re juggling multiple jobs and school and work and childcare and making all the family decisions during a pandemic that all of us are. and so this justice couldn t have come soon enough. and we need to get to work to try to help the people that have been waiting. and just to be clear, this injunction goes into effect, it s an immediate injunction, and so if the law is now enjoined in texas, this means as soon as clinics can get their doors open, get back in touch with patients, get themselves ....
