Construction on Grand, First, I70B to start soon

Grand Junctionâs busiest intersection is about to get a lot busier.
In a couple of weeks, construction crews will start tearing up the somewhat convoluted intersection where Grand Avenue, First Street and Interstate 70B meet, and realign it into something that the Colorado Department of Transportation believes is more drivable.
That work, the fifth phase in a series of improvement projects on the business loop from Mesa Mall to Fifth Street, is going to take some time.
âWe have two primary facilities, two major highway systems that are interacting with each other, and itâs the main thoroughfare for all the Redlands residents,â said Kaity Clark, Grand Junction regional engineer for CDOT, referring to the confluence of U.S. 50 and Colorado Highway 340. ....

NYPD officers shoot suspect in leg, say he drove stolen van at them in Brownsville, Brooklyn

It happened at 8:55 p.m. at Georgia and Pitkin Avenues in Brownsville.
NYPD officers apparently spotted two men breaking into a stolen vehicle.
One suspect was taken into custody at the scene, but the other jumped into a second stolen van and drove towards them.
Two of the officers opened fire.
He was shot in the leg by a bullet that apparently went through the stolen van.
They followed after the van to Jamaica and Pennsylvania avenues where it collided with a parked police vehicle.
The 61-year-old was taken to Brookdale University Hospital for treatment.
The officers involved were taken to Jamaica Hospital for treatment and were not seriously injured. ....
