A Metro Detroit animal advocacy group is seeking a harsher punishment for a woman facing sentencing in a case involving the abuse and attempted drowning of her dog in Macomb County.
Detroit Pit Crew Rescue objected to a plea deal Amber Sunde recently received that calls for two years’ probation, restitution and mental health treatment after being charged with animal abuse of her pup, formerly named Lux.
Theresa Sumpter, the group’s founder and director, is seeking jail time instead.
There’s no real consequence,” she told The Detroit News. “The plea deal offered by the Prosecutor’s Office is so very low, I couldn’t believe it.” ....

Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue said Lux , a 6-month-old puppy, endured serious abuse in his short life but was saved before he was thrown off a Macomb County bridge this week.
UTICA, Mich. (FOX 2) - The Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue said it saved a 6-month-old puppy after it was nearly thrown into a Macomb County river after being badly abused during its short lifetime.
The Pit Crew Rescue posted on Facebook pictures of the puppy, which they say had been so badly beaten he had his two right legs broken and had a fractured skull. According to the Pit Crew, the suspect badly beat the 6-month-old puppy and was trying to throw him into a river. ....
