Mirjam Rääbis has been appointed caretaker director of the state heritage protection board (Muinsuskaitseamet), replacing Liisa Pakosta, who resigned from office earlier this month, amid controversy.
On Thursday morning, work began on the removal of plaques and memorials featuring symbols which commemorate Red Army units, from state-owned land in Tallinn's Maajamäe Memorial complex.
The outgoing head of the state heritage protection board, the Muinsuskaitseamet, lost the confidence both in her institution and in the area as a whole, Culture Minister Piret Hartman (SDE) says.
From 2023, five additional writers and artists in Estonia will be awarded start salaries, paid by Ministry of Culture under the creative salaries instrument.
