A Yucca Valley woman was arrested Thursday (May 6) accused of DUI. According to Sheriffs reports, Deputies responded to the intersection of Pioneertown Road and Sunnyslope Drive at 1:50 a.m. for a report of a traffic collision. Arriving deputies determined that the driver, identified as Evalina Tamayo, 28, of Yucca Valley, was under the influence of alcohol when she reportedly failed to turn as the roadway curved while driving her Ford north on Pioneertown road. Her vehicle ran through desert brush, collided with a fence surrounding a nearby water basin, then became airborne while colliding with another section of the same fence. The vehicle landed and veered into the roadway of Sunnyslope Drive before running off the road again, colliding with a street sign, and coming to rest in desert brush on the side of the road. According to County Fire Battalion Chief Bob Evans, the 20-foot travel trailer was being towed on Pioneertown Road, near Short Road, when it began to smoke, and then ignited about 6:20 p.m. The flames spread to nearby vegetation, but firefighters were able to keep the spread to a small area.
