This year marking the 200th anniversary of the opening of the trail, we figured it was a perfect time to invite joy back to tell us the stories of these women. Poole currently serves as Deputy Librarian with the New Mexico state library. Previously she was director of the el can me know rial international Heritage Center in university of New Mexico. Poole devoted much of her career to studying santa fe trail history. She helped organize the first symposium in trinidad, colorado. At that conference, she was named the first Vice President of the santa fe Trail Association. She also served for ten years on the santa fe national historic advisory council for the national park service.
