In a major setback to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Tripura, the party's state chief, Pijush Kanti Biswas, stepped down from the post and the primary membership of the party.
At a time when a section of Congress leaders is making a beeline to join rival Trinamool Congress, another section of its former leaders have floated a new political party, rendering the Congress in the state to a mere signboard.
Tripura Congress leader Pijush Kanti Biswas resigned as chief of the party's state unit today. Late on Saturday, AICC in-charge for Sikkim, Tripura and Nagaland, Dr Ajoy Kumar tweeted that Mr Biswas had decided to take his resignation back
Biswas, a renowned lawyer, quit the Congress six days after the All India Mahila Congress chief Sushmita Dev left the party and joined Trinamool Congress.
