A six-storey, 18,000-square-metre building connected to the existing hospital which is about 15,000 square metres will be built in the parking lot. Patients will have access to individual rooms with a singular bathroom, a new palliative care unit, as well as emergency and operation rooms.
After years of planning, the Lachine Hospital will start its multi-million dollar expansion next week, enlarging and modernizing the site, which was built in 1913.
Construction for a new building for the Lachine Hospital is set to begin this spring, but the council of physicians at the hospital is warning that officials should not wait for it to be completed to start dealing with staffing shortages.
