A group of Marlborough schoolboys, rowing in an eight together for the very first time, squeezed out older and more experienced competition to snatch a national title and gold medal in Twizel. “Logistically it is pretty difficult, but we all follow the same programme that either Keiran or I set for the rowing machine to keep that ‘rowing’ fitness going,” said Ryan. Competing together was a very easy decision he said: “How often do you get the chance to race with all your brothers in the same boat?” According to Keiran, the ‘brothers’ boat came about by accident. “Ryan and Shae were classed as senior rowers after 2019 and Keiran and Hayden after a 2-year stand down were graded as club, so we weren’t planning on racing the same boat,” he said. ....
