COVID-19 vaccine is now being given to those age 75 and older in NC


More than 4,200 frontline healthcare workers and providers at New Hanover Regional Medical Center have already received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination, which were initially offered to frontline healthcare workers at the highest risk of exposure to the virus.
North Carolina has now opened eligibility to phase 1b, group 1 of the state s vaccination plan. Last week, NHRMC Physician Group Primary Care started vaccinating patients age 75 and older. NHRMC Physician Group will announce when additional groups are eligible to make appointments to receive a vaccine.

More COVID-19 vaccine doses arrive, providers added to administer shots


 
The New Hanover County Health Department on Jan. 7 began vaccinating seniors 75 years old and older as part of the state’s current guidelines for eligibility. State officials are working through the Trump administration’s announcement Tuesday about expanded guidelines for vaccine eligibility.

The county opened appointment slots on Thursday and Friday for the 955 vaccine doses it now has. Less than three hours after announcing the openings, county officials reported shortly before 2 p.m. that those appointments were all full.
 
The NHRMC Physician Group primary care practices opened COVID-19 vaccinations to their established patients in the eligible age group starting Jan. 8. ....

SOUTHEASTERN NC  According to the latest numbers from the state’s Covid-19 dashboard, North Carolina has reached a total of 614,355 Covid-19 cases, with 3,871 people hospitalized and 7,425 deaths. Statewide case counts keep breaking one-day numbers for the second weekend in a row. N.C. Health and Human Services (NCHHS) reported 11,581 on Saturday, Jan. 9, following two days of hitting more than 10,000 cases each day.
New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender counties also are hitting new highs. All three counties are in the red zone, meaning there is critical viral spread of Covid-19, according to the Covid-19 County Alert System. ....
