A man charged with fatally shooting Anthony Lashawn Williams last summer in Norwich appeared in court Tuesday morning in New London.
Phillip Wise, 40, whose last known address was 37 Lake St., appeared virtually in court before Judge Hillary B. Strackbein. The judge scheduled a judicial pre-trial hearing in his case for June 1.
Wise allegedly shot Williams after the two got into an argument on Lake Street at about 4:30 p.m. on July 21, 2020.
Wise was arraigned in Norwich Superior Court in February after being arrested on a warrant and extradited from North Carolina. He is charged with murder in the death of 39-year-old Williams. ....

Phillip Wise pleads not guilty to murdering Anthony Williams in Norwich


NEW LONDON -  A 40-year-old convicted felon accused of fatally gunning down a man in Norwich last year pleaded not guilty to the crime on Tuesday and waived his right for a probable cause hearing.
Phillip Wise made a brief appearance in New London Superior Court via a video monitor as his two attorneys, Marc Miller and Amy Mahon, stood before Judge Hillary Strackbein.
Miller said his met with his incarcerated client previously and the two decided to waive the probable cause hearing, a sort of “mini trial” in which prosecutors present evidence and call witnesses in an effort to convince a judge that enough evidence exists in a case to take a defendant to trial. ....

A man who is charged in a shooting that left another man dead last summer in Norwich appeared virtually in court in New London on Friday afternoon.
Phillip C. Wise, 40, whose last known address was in Norwich, appeared via video conference before Judge Hillary B. Strackbein and was scheduled to next appear in court on April 6.
Wise had been arraigned Wednesday in Norwich and his case was transferred to the Part A courthouse in New London, where major crimes are heard. Judge Strackbein maintained the $2 million bail set by Judge Nuala Droney in Norwich.
Wise was extradited from North Carolina to Norwich on Tuesday after being arrested on a warrant issued in Connecticut on July 24, charging him with the murder of Anthony Lashawn Williams, 39, of Norwich, according to the Norwich Police Department. ....
