My platoon was ambushed by the enemy in an action on top of a mountain near the A Shau valley. I was serving in an Army infantry unit with the 101st AirBorne Division at the time. Half of my platoon was taken out that day. I was triaged for my injuries and flown from Phu Bia to a military hospital in Long Binh just east of Saigon. It was late December close to Christmas.
