Great news, Arizona. The drive to lift the shroud on “dark money” campaigns – the people and groups that secretly spend big bucks to buy our elections – is back.  
A new and improved citizen initiative that would require disclosure of major contributors to independent campaigns has been filed with the secretary of state.
The group is aiming for the 2022 ballot, with former Attorney General Terry Goddard once again leading the campaign. ....

Those living in District 7 have a choice in the March 9 election between two candidates: (L-R) Yassamin Ansari and Cinthia Estela.
Southwest Phoenix voters got the first deceitful political mailer from Americans for Progress nearly two weeks ago, and they just keep coming.
The ads, featuring Donald Trump s talking points, are seemingly attempting to trick voters in the heavily progressive district into thinking that Yassamin Ansari, a Democratic candidate for Phoenix City Council, is a Republican.
The problem is: Voters don t have a way of knowing who is sending them. Americans for Progress has yet to file a disclosure with the city. ....

Phoenix Council Candidate Wants Investigation Over Trump-Themed Flyer


“Are you kidding? Ansari asked when
New Times inquired whether she thought the presidential election was stolen.  I was being attacked this whole time for being too progressive and now I’m in an alternate reality where I’m a Trump supporter.
Ansari is currently in a runoff election against fellow Democrat and Laveen Community Council member Cinthia Estela to replace outgoing councilmember Michael Nowakowski. Estela has Nowakowski s endorsement and has stuck closer to his positions on police oversight and expanded homeless services in the district, while Ansari, who is backed by Mayor Kate Gallego, has staked out more aggressive positions in support of those proposals. ....
