Presidents’ Day is celebrated the third Monday of February.
This year, the holiday falls on Monday, Feb. 15. Originally, it marked the birthday of George Washington, on Feb. 22. But the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which took effect in 1971, switched the commemoration (along with Columbus Day and Memorial Day) to the Monday holiday.
The federal government continues to recognize the third Monday in February as Washington’s Birthday, but because states are not obliged to adopt federal holidays, the date can vary.
Here’s a rundown of what’s open and what’s closed Monday in observance of Presidents’ Day: ....

The Phillipsburg Free Public Library put forth a budget request for $765,900 in October 2020. $765,900 is what the library believes it needs to be adequately funded to continue serving the needs as a local full-service library for the town of Phillipsburg.
The library serves numerous critical needs for the people of Phillipsburg at a strategic location in town that is easily accessible by a diverse group of residents. Phillipsburg Mayor Todd Tersigni has proposed a 2021 library budget of $323,473. This budget would devastate the library’s ability to provide services as a full-service library and would hurt many of the residents of the town. ....

In response to Joshua Wanisko’s letter regarding my comments about a “library website” and the fear-mongering carried out by a group of individuals who constantly create issues rather than solve them, I can only make this statement: It’s an election year.
I’m sure we can expect even more letters from the names associated with his group.
In his letter, Wanisko failed to identify himself as a member of the Phillipsburg Democratic Committee for District 5, Ward 1, and failed to mention that the library site referenced is not sponsored by the Phillipsburg Free Public Library at all. In fact, it’s operated by his fellow committee member and Treasurer, David Morrisette. ....
