For decades, a tunnel through Teton Pass has been a curiosity for Teton County residents, a pie-in-the-sky aspirational fix to the avalanche problems on Highway 22.
Eager citizens have penned letters to the editor to the News&Guide and its predecessors in support; a few political hopefuls have included it in their platforms, hoping to prove their commitment to audacious community solutions.
That advocacy has been to no avail.
But depending how fortuneâs wheel spins, the Teton Pass tunnel could one day be a reality. The subterranean highway is again on officialsâ minds, as the Wyoming Department of Transportation has included it in a wishlist of projects to be sent to the Biden administration as part of the American Jobs Plan, the infrastructure bill Congress is considering.

Just a month before from the World Championship Hill Climb at Snow King, local sledding athletes gave heed up Phillips Canyon last weekend they’re in the race for the ultimate King of the Mountain.
During the three-day Afton Hill Climb above Grover Park, some 600 entries from junior and amateur to semi-pro and pro pared down to the final day of competition on Sunday. Such noted local sledders as Andy Thomas, Luke Rainey, Justin Thomas – to name a few – ran the gauntlet, with Justin Thomas winning the coveted title of “modified” King of the Mountain.
Teton County commissioners wanted state senators to back off on
a resolution opposing any boundary expansion of Grand Teton National Park. Some legislators mistakenly believed the National Park Service was unilaterally trying to swallow all remaining private land in the valley.

the sixth annual running of the Shrine Cutter Races. The team of Korell Olson from Lander defeated Dadâs Bar from Thayne to take the title.

during a seminar on bronc and bull riding. âWe needed something to boost our riding skills,â coach Cornell Rudd said.
When Brenden Cronin returned to his truck on Teton Pass on a recent morning, he was aghast at what he found.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation avalanche forecasterâs truck in the auxiliary lot had been broken into and moved. One party had taken the keys from the toolbox and repositioned the vehicle, presumably to exit the parking lot.
A second party was in the act of moving it, having found the keys on the floorboards, when Cronin rolled up.
âI was so blown away it happened, and that I actually witnessed it,â he said. âI used some pretty choice words.â
